Trim Levels
The Cherokee comes in five different trims. The Latitude is the base and starts things off with 17-inch wheels, xenon headlights, and heated mirrors on the side. Upgrade to the Latitude Plus for some upgrades in the cabin, or go with the Limited for 18-inch wheels, a power liftgate, and some extra safety features. The Overland is the most luxurious trim and comes with a different exterior body-colored trim, a sound deadening windshield, and cornering lights. Off-road enthusiasts should look at the Trailhawk model which comes with Jeep's advanced all-wheel-drive system, 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, and a higher ground clearance. It also has an off-road-tuned suspension, skid plates, tow hooks, and different exterior trim accents.
Engine
The base engine that comes standard in most trims is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that gets 180 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque. There is also an optional 3.2-liter V-6 that will get you 271 horsepower and 239 pound-feet of torque, while the new 2.0-liter turbo delivers 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. All models except the Trailhawk come standard with front-wheel drive and offer all-wheel drive as an option, while the Trailhawk comes only with all-wheel drive.
Performance
The new 2.0-liter turbo engine is the best performer when it comes to fuel efficiency. This new addition will get 23 miles per gallon in the city with 31 mpg on the highway. The Cherokee is a great small SUV for commuting to and from work, but it will also take you on your weekend adventures. Choose the Trailhawk and its Active Drive Lock system that Jeep designed for serious off-roading.
Interior
Inside, the Cherokee's cabin is sleek and refined. The base model has cloth upholstery, the Latitude Plus adds leather inserts, and the Limited comes with leather seats. The Overland adds driver's seat memory settings, a leather-wrapped instrument panel, and ventilated front seats. For technology, a 7-inch touch screen comes standard in the lower-end models, while higher-end trims get an 8.4-inch touch screen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity comes standard along with Bluetooth and a USB port. Additional technology includes a navigation system, HD radio, and a nine-speaker stereo system.
Safety Features
All Cherokee models come standard with a rearview camera. Bump up to the Limited for extra safety systems such as a blind-spot monitoring system and rear cross-traffic alert along with rear parking sensors. The top three trims also offer the option for the Technology Group Package which adds traffic adaptive cruise control, automatic windshield wipers, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and an automated parking system. You'll also get lane departure warning and automatic high beams as part of this package.
