Trim Levels
The Durango comes in five different trims starting with the SXT. This base level starts off with 18-inch alloy wheels, heated side mirrors, and a load leveling rear suspension. Step up to the GT for 20-inch wheels and a power liftgate. The Citadel adds xenon headlights and roof-rail crossbars along with a sunroof and some interior upgrades. The R/T starts off the performance models and adds a sport-tuned suspension, the new performance hood, and LED fog lights. The new SRT comes with an adaptive suspension and performance brakes in addition to the features of the R/T and Citadel.
Engine
Dodge offers the Durango with three different engines. The base is a 3.6-liter V-6 that generates 293 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Jump up to the R/T to get a more powerful 5.7-liter V-8 that produces 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. The SRT tops them all with a 6.4-liter V-8 engine that gets 475 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. All the trims except the SRT come standard with rear-wheel-drive with the option for all-wheel drive. If you choose the SRT, it comes only with all-wheel drive.
Performance
The base engine is the most fuel efficient with an EPA rating of 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. If you get the V-8, the 5.7-liter version will get 14 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. Where the Durango shines is with its utility and power. The V-6 can tow up to 6,200 pounds, and the SRT model with the powerful V-8 can handle up to 8,700 pounds.
Interior
Depending on the trim, the Durango can seat up to either five or seven passengers. There are soft-touch surfaces throughout the cabin and the option to add leather seats depending on the trim. Dodge also offers the option for a heated steering wheel and heated and ventilated seats. You can also change out the second-row bench seat for captain's chairs. For technology, all models come standard with the Uconnect infotainment system. The lower trims have a 7-inch touch screen, and the higher-end trims offer an 8.4-inch screen and add navigation and an upgraded stereo system.
Safety Features
All the Durango models come standard with a rearview camera and a full suite of air bags. If you want some of the advanced safety features, you can opt for additional equipment on all models except the base. These active safety features include lane departure warning with lane keep assist, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. You can also add a blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert.
