Trim Levels
The trims start with the base SE, which has 17-inch steel wheels and keyless entry. The SXT adds body-colored side mirrors and fog lights, and it comes with 17-inch alloy wheels. A step up to the Crossroad gets you 19-inch alloy wheels painted in black and a sunroof, and this trim also adds some interior upgrades. At the top of the lineup, the Journey GT also has the 19-inch wheels and adds a security alarm. The GT also offers the option for the Trailer Tow Prep package with a hitch and wiring connector.
Engine
The base engine in the Journey is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that will get 173 horsepower and 166 pound-feet of torque. Dodge pairs this with a four-speed automatic transmission, and you can opt for either front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive. The optional 3.6-liter V-6 engine gets 283 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque.
Performance
Both engines get similar fuel economy, but the extra power with the V-6 is worth the bump up. Journeys with the 2.4-liter will get 19 miles per gallon in the city and 25 mpg on the highway, and the V-6 will get 17 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway with front-wheel-drive. Dodge tuned the suspension in the Journey to give it a comfortable ride, and it handles corners with ease. It also has a responsive steering system so you can feel confident no matter what type of road you're on.
Interior
The Journey has three rows of seats and room for up to seven passengers. The cabin features soft-touch materials on many of its surfaces to give it an upscale feel, and the seats are comfortable. In the back, there are almost 11 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row of seats. If you fold down both the second and third row, it opens up to over 67 cubic feet. There are plenty of storage spaces all throughout the Journey's cabin, and some trims even have overhead console storage. For technology, the base models come with a 4.3-inch touch screen, and the higher trims upgrade this to an 8.4-inch screen with the Uconnect infotainment system. Add the Premium package to the SXT for satellite radio, or choose the Crossroad, which comes with navigation and an upgraded stereo system.
Safety Features
The Journey is a safe vehicle and earned four stars from the National Highway Traffic Administration in frontal crash and rollover crash tests. All the models come standard with a rearview camera, and you can add rear parking sensors depending on the trim. There is also a full suite of air bags including side curtain air bags.
