Timing Belt

A timing belt is a rubber belt with small teeth that helps the engine operate by linking up the crankshaft with the camshaft. Connecting these two helps the two assemblies in sync, this way, the valve opens and closes at the right time.

Since the timing belt is made out of rubber, it will wear and tear over time. When the engine gets extremely hot, the belt may lose some of its texture and strength which may result in a snapped belt. Another reason the timing belt may break is because of water pump seizing caused by a lack of coolant.

Signs It May Be Time To Replace Your Timing Belt:

• Ticking noise coming from the engine. When your timing belt has worn down, it will start to affect your engines timing. This sound could also indicate low oil pressure, which in turn affect the timing belt.
• You Hear Squealing Sounds. Screeching or squealing sounds while accelerating, braking, or idling may indicate an issue with your timing belt.
• RPM Between 2000-4000. An RPM between this range could be failing because the timing belt is loose or breaking down from wear and tear.

Serpentine Belt

The serpentine, or the driver belt, is a very essential part in your engine’s assembly. The Serpentine belt is one long, winding belt that keeps the alternator, power steering pump and air conditioner running smoothly. Serpentine belts are built to last a long time, typically, a belt lasts between 60,000-100,000 miles. Some signs that your serpentine belt may ne to be replaced are: a chirp or squeal coming from the engine, the check engine light comes on, or any sort of system performance loss, such as your power steering has failed or your engine just stops.

Hoses

Coolant hoses typically include the upper and lower radiator hoses, plus the heater hoses. The main purpose of all these hoses are to provide a connection for coolant flow between the engine, radiator and heating block. These hoses have a limited lifetime and are prone to cracking. These cracks can lead to a burst in the hose and an overheated engine.
