1. Indianapolis, IN

If you ask any Greenwood local about their favorite day trip destination, chances are Indianapolis will be at the top of everyone’s minds. Better known by locals as “Indy,” the capital and most populous city in the state is home to more than two million inhabitants in its metropolitan area. If you are looking for a busy city where you can spend hours in museums, good restaurants, interesting historical sights, and enjoy great nightlife, Indianapolis is the place to be.
Getting to the city center of Indiana’s capital city takes just about 20 minutes by car, driving a distance of 15 miles along route I-65 S. Once you get to the city center and find a spot to park close to the Mile Square or the Wholesale District, you can explore the most famous sights of Indianapolis on foot. Some of the places you should definitely not miss include the Indianapolis Canal Walk, the Indiana World War Memorial, and the Indiana Statehouse.

2. Brown County State Park, IN

Spanning almost 16,000 acres of territory, the Brown County State Park is the most visited state park in Indiana, welcoming more than a million tourists each year. For people living in Greenwood, Indianapolis, and other cities and towns from all over the state, this is an excellent destination to spend a day walking on beautiful nature trails, breathe some fresh air, and check out the breathtaking views of the surrounding areas that the park has to offer.
Getting to the Brown County State Park from downtown Greenwood takes a little over 45 minutes by car, driving a distance of just 46 miles along route I-65 N and State Road 46. In order to access this state park, visitors are required to purchase a $7 daily pass per non-commercial vehicle or motorcycle. Once in the park, make sure to check out the different hiking trails and the different activities that the place has to offer.

3. Bloomington, IN

Located just 45 miles south of Greenwood, the city of Bloomington has a population of a little over 80,000 and has some interesting sights that make it a great day trip destination for visitors from Greenwood and other towns in the Indianapolis metropolitan area. Some of the places you should check out while in town include the downtown area and the Indiana University Campus.
