Keeping the kids busy and entertained can be a challenge any time of year and in any weather. While it’s important for them to go outside and play, it is also a good idea to have a backup plan and some scheduled activities too. Here are some fun things for kids to do around Greenwood.
You Are the Potter
Bring the kids to You Are the Potter so they can paint their own pottery. This is a fun activity for the whole family, and you get to bring your creations home when you are done. Everyone can pick their own piece of pottery from the shelves, and then design and decorate the piece just the way they want. After you paint it, You Are the Potter will glaze and fire it for you, and in 7-10 days you can go back to pick it up. You only pay for the piece to you want to paint and a studio fee for the use of paint, brushes, stencils, and the glazing and firing.
Westside Park
Westside Park is a wonderful place for the kids to play. It has a little of everything from playground equipment to basketball courts and a softball diamond. Take a walk over the bridge to cross the creek that runs through the park if you want to do some hiking, or you can just let the kids run and play. The playground is a great spot at this park. The equipment is spread out and includes swings, a giant slide, climbing apparatus, and a sandbox. There are lots of trees near the playground so you can even sit and relax in the shade while the kids play.
Freedom Springs Aquatics Park
The kids can swim and play at Freedom Springs Aquatics Park starting Memorial Day. This large aquatics park has something for everyone including a lazy river, two body slides, tube slides, a lap pool, and both a 1-meter and a 3-meter diving board. There is a splash and play area for infants and toddlers, cabanas and shelters, and concessions. Throughout the summer season, Freedom Springs hosts several events for the whole family. Check the schedule for movie screenings, live music performances, and the Puppy POOLooza event at the end of the season.
Wheels of Wonder
Take the short trip to Indianapolis with the kids for roller skating at Wheels of Wonder. Whether you’ve skated before or you’re trying it for the first time, it is fun for everyone. Wheels of Wonder offers public skating, birthday parties, private events, and even S.T.E.A.M. field trips. The kids can skate, play at the arcade, or grab a snack from the snack bar. Check the schedule for special events, or even plan a birthday party. Wheels of Wonder will assign a party helper to make sure the event runs smoothly and that you have everything you need for a successful day.
