The Jeep Grand Cherokee is capable, functional, and luxurious. You get a lot with the Grand Cherokee including a smooth on-road ride and best-in-class off-road capabilities. The 2019 model carries over with just a few changes including making some advanced safety systems standard, and there is a new Limited X trim. The Overland and Summit trims now come standard with 20-inch wheels, and the Limited and higher get the larger Uconnect touch screen. Here is a short introduction to the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The Models
The 2019 Grand Cherokee has seven main trim levels and a few limited editions. The Laredo starts the lineup with the Limited next in line. This one step up gets you 18-inch wheels, a power liftgate, and auto-dimming side door mirrors. The Trailhawk is the off-road model and comes with off-road tires, an adjustable air suspension, skid plates, and the Quadra-Lift system. The Overland comes next, and then the Summit with 20-inch wheels and noise reducing-window glass. The SRT bumps up the power, and the Trackhawk has a more aggressive exterior look, lightweight 20-inch wheels, and high-performance tires.
Special edition models for 2019 include the Upland, the Altitude, and the Limited X.
The Power
The base engine in the Grand Cherokee is a 3.6-liter V-6 with 295 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. With the Limited and above you can opt for a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 with 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque or a 5.7-liter V-8 that gets 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. The SRT has its own powertrain which includes a 6.4-liter V-8 with 475 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, and the Trackhawk brings the most power with its 6.2-liter V-8 engine that generates 707 horsepower and 645 pound-feet of torque.
The Cabin and Technology
Even the base Grand Cherokee comes standard with a high-resolution 7-inch touch screen display and the Uconnect infotainment system, but stepping up to the Limited gets you an upgraded 8.4-inch touch screen and adds navigation and satellite radio. The higher-end Summit adds a 19-speaker Harman Kardon stereo; depending on the trim level, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both available.
Inside, this SUV comes with room for up to five passengers, and starting with the Limited, you’ll get a heated steering wheel, leather seats, and heated seats both up front and in the back. Nappa leather is an available upgrade along with ventilated front seats.
The Safety Equipment
Standard safety features for all Grand Cherokee models include a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, and new for 2019, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Additional safety features such as forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, rain-sensing windshield wipers, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning are available as options. You can also get a parallel and perpendicular park assist system, adaptive headlights, and automatic high beams.
